I miss reading.

No, really. I do.

Not just reading the news or browsing blogs. Real reading. The kind where you hole up for days on end because you just can't get enough of a certain author, series, or topic. I miss the stimulation of learning something new.

Today at the library, a customer came up to me and asked me about Newberry books. I could only think of two and I knew there were hundreds more to choose from.

Why didn't I know them?

Because I haven't been reading.

I love reading. I think all of my moving posts about the pain of separation from my books would be evidence enough of that. But I haven't been reading.

I don't know. Somewhere in between working and wedding planning, my attention turned to floral arrangements and font sizes rather than fiction or non. I'm really looking forward to late April when a) I'll be married and b) my free time can be used for fun, frivolous things like novels. I like that idea.

dear mr. weather man

It was negative two this morning when I left for work.

That was before the windchill.

Yes, there was sun.

Yes, I live in Ohio and should be grateful for sun in the middle of January.

But negative two? Really? Does that even count as a temperature?

reality check

I'm in Detroit for the weekend with the Czechoslovakian. He came along for the ride. I'm here for wedding stuff. We arrived yesterday morning and hit the ground running, hammering out invitations, hair, wardrobe, postage, and any other number of things before going to a birthday party. I checked fonts and made sure things were spelled correctly, and looked at colors.

By last night, all I wanted was to elope and sleep. Not necessarily in that order. I was whelmed to the over.

This morning, an old family friend came over to help fit my wedding dress. My grandmother that lives in Southern Utah is making the dress...but I'm not in Southern Utah. So our wonderful friend came over today and pinned and tucked the mock up of my bodice.

And that's when it really hit me.

I am incredibly fortunate.

I have this absolutely amazing network of family and friends bringing my dream wedding into existence.

My mother has masterminded the most beautiful invitations and her ingenious colleague used her graphic design wizardry to bring them into reality. My grandmother is making my dress, an old family friend is helping with the alterations of the dress. Another friend is taking care of the flowers and decorations. My Liver will be doing the photography. My future sister took our engagements. My aunts and uncles are gathering and hoarding stuff. My aunt reserved a building for our family dinner. My future mother-in-law is making endless phone calls and gathering buttons. The Tall Guy keeps buying stamps for envelopes and going out of his way to make sure everything goes off without a hitch.

I am a lucky, lucky girl.

an explanation

as to my lack of posting, emailing, phone calling, facebooking, letter writing, and general neglect of everyone this last month.

I hereby offer a visual recap of my crazy, hectic, wonderful December.
